Dear Parent/Guardian:
Recently, on the recommendation of your school’s guidance counselor, your child was invited to participate in a program called Talent Search. Your child expressed interest in the program. Your child was chosen to be in this academic program because he/she has demonstrated the potential to go on to school after high school, due to good grades, behavior, and attendance at school.
A few facts about Talent Search:
- It is federally funded through the
Department of Education and is FREE to students.
- It is continuous. We work with students
until they graduate high school.
- Our goal is to help students identify and
obtain whatever type of training they want after
high
school, such as, college, business school,
trade school, or beauty school.
How we try to help students:
-Get information on where and how to
obtain financial aid.
-Help fill out financial aid and school
admissions application if needed.
-Give study skills information.
-Explore ways to get into the training
they want.
-Examine career opportunities related to
their interests.
-Take field trips to tour college
campuses or business places.
-Provide tutoring whenever possible.
-Encourage job shadowing.
-Help students register for SATs and
give test preparation information.
-Provide fee waivers for SATs and
college admissions when possible.
-Dispense information on where to find
scholarships.
-Offer parent information meetings
whenever requested and a financial aid
night at the school.
I meet with students in small groups by grade about once or twice a month during the school day. I meet them for one period of class time. The periods are scheduled on a rotated basis so that the student would not be missing that same period frequently during the course of the entire year. Field trips are offered during the school day.
I look forward to working with your child but need your permission to do so. The information on the parent permission form is for the Department of Education’s statistical reporting purposes. The information is kept strictly confidential. The form gets handed in to Guidance and you may put it in a sealed envelope if you wish. Your child cannot participate in the program unless this parent permission form is completed and handed in.
We go by the taxable (not gross or net) income you report to determine eligibility for fee waivers and the Talent Search scholarship. It is up to you if you want to report income but please be aware that your child may not be eligible for waivers without the information. Once again, it is at your discretion.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me.
Sincerely,
Miss Fritz
